Vocabula — vocabulary flashcards for Kindergarten through Grade 12
Get Vocabula on the App Store · About the app
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Vocabula is one screen and one tap. Tap a card to see what the word means, tap again for the next word. All 4,241 cards are already inside the app, so it works with no internet.
If something is wrong, or a definition looks off, write to submartingaleoptions+vocabula@gmail.com. A real person reads it.
How to use it
- Pick a subject at the top: English, Math or Science.
- Pick a grade next to it: Kindergarten through Grade 12.
- Tap the card. The word turns over and shows what it means.
- Tap again for the next word. Keep tapping to keep going.
- Use the arrows under the card to step back and forward, and the Shuffle / A–Z switch between them to change the order.
That really is all of it. There is no lesson to start, no streak to keep up and no score to beat.
A few small things worth knowing:
- Close the app and open it later and you come back to the same subject, the same grade, the same order and the same card.
- Switching subject or grade starts that new deck at its first card.
- The small line at the bottom of the card says where you are, like “14 of 174”. At the last card the deck loops round to the first one, so it never dead-ends.
- The gear in the top right corner holds the card counts, the restore button, the privacy summary and the version number.
- Vocabula needs iOS 17 or later. The same app runs on iPhone and iPad.
Questions people ask
I paid, but my cards are still locked
Tap Restore a previous purchase. It is on the unlock screen, and it is also in Settings — the gear in the top right corner — under the card counts. The app asks Apple whether this purchase was made, and unlocks if the answer is yes.
If it says no purchase was found, the usual reason is that the phone is signed in to a different Apple ID from the one that paid. Check which one it is in the iPhone's own Settings › your name › Media & Purchases, then try Restore again.
If a child tapped the buy button and the purchase is waiting on a parent's approval, the cards unlock on their own once that approval goes through.
I bought it on my iPhone. Do I pay again on my iPad?
No. One payment covers every device signed in to the same Apple ID. On the second device, tap Restore a previous purchase and it unlocks.
The purchase is also set up as Family Shareable, so it can reach the people in your Family Sharing group. Apple manages that. On their device, the same Restore button is what brings it in.
Is it a subscription?
No. It is one payment, once, and it does not renew. There is nothing to cancel and no second charge later. Apple calls this kind of purchase a non-consumable; what it means for you is that you buy it and you keep it.
Why are only 10 cards free?
Because the writing is the thing being sold, and ten definitions is enough to judge whether it is any good. It is a taste, not a free version to study on — calling it anything else would just mean finding out later and feeling tricked.
What is limited is the meanings, not the app. Before you buy you can still open every subject, every grade and every word, and read all the words themselves. Ten of those words will show you their definition, and you choose which ten by tapping. Going back to one you already opened does not cost another of the ten. Once the ten are used, tapping a card moves on to the next word instead of turning it over, and the banner above the card is how you unlock the rest.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, entirely. All 4,241 cards are built into the app, so studying works on a plane, in a car, or anywhere with no signal. The internet is needed for exactly two things: making the purchase, and restoring it. Both of those are Apple's screens, not ours.
What do you collect about my child?
Nothing. There is no account and no sign-in. There are no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no software from any other company inside the app. The app asks for no name, no age and no email address, and it has nowhere to type.
The app does save a few small notes on the device so it can remember where you were — your subject, your grade, your place in the deck, which of the ten free definitions you opened, and whether the unlock was bought. All of it stays on the device and none of it is sent anywhere. The full list is in the privacy policy.
Which grades and subjects are covered?
Three subjects, each one running the whole way from Kindergarten to Grade 12 — thirteen grades per subject:
- English — 1,963 words.
- Math — 814 terms.
- Science — 1,464 terms.
That is 4,241 cards in total. Deck sizes differ by grade, because some grades simply have more vocabulary to carry than others.
A definition looks wrong, or a word is missing
Please email it to submartingaleoptions+vocabula@gmail.com. Corrections are genuinely welcome — a wrong definition in a children's app is worth fixing quickly, and a reader who spots one is doing everyone a favor.
There is no way to report it from inside the app. That is deliberate, and worth being straight about: the app opens no links and sends no mail, because it has no internet connection of its own and no way to send anything anywhere. So reporting a problem means coming here, or emailing directly. It is a real inconvenience, and it is the price of the app not being able to phone home.
In the email, say the word, the subject and the grade it was in. That is enough to find the exact card.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. Touch and hold the Vocabula icon on your Home Screen, choose to remove the app, then choose Delete App. The notes it saved go with it.
Nothing is held anywhere else. There is no server, no account and no copy of anything of yours, so there is nothing else to ask us to delete.
The record of your purchase belongs to Apple, not to us, so deleting the app does not undo it. Install Vocabula again and tap Restore a previous purchase to get your cards back without paying twice.
Contact
Email submartingaleoptions+vocabula@gmail.com. One person builds and answers for Vocabula, so replies are written by hand rather than promised by a deadline.
Four things make a reply useful right away instead of starting with questions back:
- Your device — iPhone 15, iPad Air, and so on.
- Your iOS version — the iPhone's Settings › General › About › Software Version.
- The Vocabula version — open the gear in the app's top right corner and look under About, next to Version.
- Which card, if it is about a word: the word, the subject and the grade.
If something looks broken, saying what you tapped just before it happened is more useful than anything else you can add.
Privacy
